Mom is Not a Game Changer

Yes, its true, I am "that mom". I find great joy in sitting at the fence with my score book on my lap and pencil in hand.  Am I good at keeping score? Not really, just ask our coaches.  I have given them the wrong count, wrong number of outs and once in a while I say What?! someone scored on that last play?   Hopefully, if you did ask them it would not be that bad.  :)

I see all of you looking at me like I am in the stone ages, sitting there with my score book, yes an actual book and my pencil.  Truth be told, I tried the IPad with the Game Changer App that so many of you have recommended but I still love my paper and pencil.   I enjoy writing the backwards K especially when its my son on the mound. I like to make little notes about my kid in the margins, I like knowing that I am compiling a stack of these books that will always remind me of the hours that I was blessed to be able to sit at the field and watch William play.

Not once has my book over heated in the Texas summer nor has my battery ever died.  Worst case scenario, my pencil brakes and I have to get out my trusty sharper.  So, you continue on with your Game Changer and when you have technical difficulties please feel free to wonder and ask me for the score.  Hopefully it will be close to correct.

It's my HAPPY PLACE

Texas Select Tournaments Austin Regional 5/2-3/2015

The road to Florida begins now, increasing the competition level this weekend by playing in the 12U bracket.

Go to work, boys!

Game 1 VS. Slam
Win 3-2
William went 0 for 1 with 2 walks and a ground out.  Played pitcher and right.  Did good on the mound and made some routine plays in the outfield.

Game 2 VS. Warhawks
Win 10-1
William went 1 for 2 with 1 walk.  Played 3rd.

Two wins on Saturday gave us the top seed for Sunday.

VS. Action White
Lost 9-1
William went 1-2 with a ground out and a double to the left field fence.  He played 3rd and was brought in to pitch in the 2nd inning.

Me:  "William, what should I say about today?"
William:  "We got our butts kicked!"

Me: "Jeff, what should I say about today?"
Jeff: "About today, that was the ETrain breakdown."

We really should not brag too much about our kids but since this is my blog... William did really well today and I am very proud of him.  In the first inning our boys made too many errors to count and allowed 6 runs.  If you know our boys, you know they are a bunch of pouters!  William kept his emotions in check today, hit the mound when we were down by 6 and really did his job.

Pitch Hit Run

Yes, we had the weekend off from ETrain but that does not mean we take the weekend off from baseball.  One of the local tournament organizaions hosted a MLB Hit Pitch Run, the name says it all.  You show up, you take 3 swings off the tee, throw 6 pitches and run from 2nd base to home plate.

Best looking ball player out there today.  Wear that jersery and be proud, Son.

Civil War 04/11-12/2015

There is nothing civil about war!

Saturday
Game 1 VS. Tejanos
Lost 4-3

A little background on William vs. the Tejanos; William has played on 2 select teams here in Texas and not once has he been able to beat the Tejanos.  At this point I am starting to think it is a mental issue with our boys.

Errors, injuries and bad calls really beat us this game.  William took a spill at 1st, Bryan took a tumble at 2nd and Antonio took a hard fast ball to the hip while warming up a pitcher.  William and Bryan took a moment to walk it off, Antonio took a ride to the ER.  We played the final inning a man short but by the end our various errors, painful bruises and blind blues had stolen our spirit.

(Stopped to see Antonio on the way home; he is okay, nothing broken or fractured, just bruised in a very uncomfortable spot.)

William played 3rd and went 1 for 2 at the plate.

William doing the stop, drop and roll at 1st.

Game 2 VS. Storm Grey
Win 12-2
Nuff Said!
William played 3rd and went 1 for 3 at the plate with 2 walks.

I have decided that since baseball is a team sport I should give some regular shoutouts!  Here is Colton who plays for our 10u team. Once Antonio left for the hospital his mom ran home to grab a uniform so he could help us out in our second game.  He was out but it was still great contact.

Our Sunday seed had us leaving the house at 630am to face the dang Tejanos, again.
 Lost 5-2

William played 3 and went 0 for 3 at the plate.

Back at it next week.

Bamma Jamma - 03/28-29/2015 Sunday

Sunday
VS. Nationals Red
Lost 8-7

Inflated egos and bad attitudes sent the ETrain home early.  The Nationals found their fire and came out strong.  We rallied back with some runs but continued errors kept us from pulling out the win.
William went 1 for 3 and played 3rd.

I'm convinced that every boy, in his heart, would rather steal second base than an automobile. ~Tom Clark

Bamma Jamma 3/28-29/2015 Day 1

Saturday

Game 1 VS.  Nationals Red

William went 2 for 3, played 3rd, Center, Right, and Pitched 2 innings did not allow any runs or hits.

Add caption

Game 2 VS Storm White
Win 14-1
Storm White did not have the pitching to hold off the ETrain.  Several great hits including a bases loaded triple hit by William in the 4th clinched the win.
William went 3 for 4, played Right.  In addition to to the awesome triple, William made a great play, from Right field , throwing out a runner at first!

GREAT JOB BOYS!

Back at it tomorrow!

Two For Two

We started out the weekend on Friday night playing in the San Marcos Slugfest.  We played 1 game in the freezing temps and by the time we went to bed the tournament had been cancelled.  We took Saturday off and enjoyed some rainy day time together.  Sunday we were met with cold and rain but it did not stop our boys from playing and.....WINNING!  We are two for two on the season.

Friday Night Vs. Extreme
They were not extreme enough, our boys put the hurt on them with a score of 14-1.
William went 1 for 1, walked twice, hit 1 RBI and scored 3 runs.  Pitching he struck out 2, walked 1, allowed 2 hits and did not allow any runs.  Played left field.

Sunday 1 day Tournament
Game 1 vs. Bourne Braves
Win 6-5
Those tomahawks were not swinging hard enough to chop us down.
William went 1 for 1, walked twice and scored 2 runs.  Played Center Field.

Game 2 vs. Nationals Red
Win 10-1
We turned the Nationals Red to blue.
William went 1-1, walked and scored 2 runs.  Played Center Field.

Championship vs. Hill Country Red
Win 6-5
Sent Hill Country running for the hills.
William went 1-1 with a Double to Center, walk and 2 runs scored.

It was a painfully cold day/night at the park but seeing the smile below makes it all worth it.  Great Job Boys!

Ring number 2.  Sporting the new Powder Blue Jerseys.

Our 1st inning 8 runs scored was more than enough to hold off the Hill Country Red.
William went 1 for 2, played Catcher

Sunday
Game 1 Vs. Storm Chasers
Win 13-1
We were too big of a storm for them to chase.
William went 2 for 2 and a Walk, played Catcher

On to the CHAMPIONSHIP

Vs. those dreaded Phenoms again
WINNER!!!
Dreaded no more!  It was a tight game through the end but ETrain prevailed with a 4-3 win!
William went 1 for 3, played Right and 3rd.  William made a great play at 3rd in the last inning helping to hold the Phenoms off and he drove in the tying run and scored the go ahead run.

What an awesome way to start the season.  Great job boys!

Keep your legs on.

HIT-A-THON

Hello Family and Friends,

Hope the new year is treating you well.  This year William's summer baseball trip is June 15-20 in Panama City Beach Florida.  He (we) could not be more excited.  Each member of the team is responsible for raising funds for the trip and a fun way to do that is through a Hit-A-Thon.  Here is how it works; William will hit 5 balls and the distance will be calculated for each, the one hit the furthest will be used to calculate donations.

Example:

Pledge  0.10 per foot - William hits the ball 250 feet - owe $25.00

If you would like to participate please respond by emailing me at aboswell629@aol.com or by phone and I fill out the information on our player form.  The Hit-A-Thon will be on Feb 21st, once it is over I will email you some pictures from the event and your total pledge amount due.

Flat donations are also welcome.  :)

Please do not hesitate to call or email me with any questions.
